Retro Game Night II – Videos!

I finally got my sheeyit together and posted choice cuts from Retro Game Night II. You’ll notice that Fast Food was a big theme of the night. Again, embarrassingly hilarious. You can play these clips in any player that plays mpeg-4 with H.264 codec (e.g., Quicktime 7, VLC). These clips should also work on the new video iPods. Enjoy.

Note the NES Duck Hunt music playing in the background.

Selected clips from Retro Game Night I.
I’ve also encoded the clips in .ogg format.
It’s probably easiest to view these clips using the VLC Player.

1 – overview .mp4 ¦ .ogg

2 – vectrex .mp4 ¦ .ogg

3 – ghostbusters, clip 1.mp4 ¦ .ogg

4 – ghostbusters, clip 2 .mp4 ¦ .ogg

5 – fastfood .mp4 ¦ .ogg

And to show that old games are just as hard as today’s games:

6 – dragonfire .mp4

Don’t freak, mike. Everyone’s got their anti-game: dragonfire just happen to be yours.

Retro Game Night II

Retro Game Night II was held over Halloween weekend. Generously hosted by J-Nass, the setup was similar as Retro I, except we set up the SNES on the overhead projector and replaced the VecTrex with a Segas Genesis, including the 32-bit attachment. Again, the Atari 2600 got heavy useage, followed by the Atari 5200 (vs. C-64 from Retro Night I). There were many highlights to the night:

  • Fast Food dominating on the Atari 2600 and Game Night II overall
  • Epic sessions of Warlords on Atari 2600
  • J-Nass beating Ghostbusters on C-64
  • Completing Bruce Lee on C-64
  • Mark and I playing Mario Brothers on Atari 5200
  • Watching CC play Fast Food and Terminator2: the Arcade Game on Sega Genesis
  • Seeing footage of myself playing Fast Food. Embarrassingly hilarious

Even before Retro Night II was coming to a close, MB and I were already planning for Retro Night III. Unfortunately, due to the upcoming holiday season, we decided to wait until January 2006 for Retro Night III. J-Nass, who I mentioned earlier has hosted the past two Retro Nights, is moving to North Carolina in two weeks. Not only did we lose a primo hangout, we will miss a great pal and the Upper Valley’s Hebrew Hammer. Sukimon and all Thai-Scot-Irishmen tip their hats to you, J-Nass. We wish you well.

CC popping caps in Terminators’ asses. She was killin’ it, until she decided to stop playing because her arm was getting tired from holding the lightgun controller for so long.

Playing video games. Look at those happy faces

Look at those smiles!

japanese sticker fun

I was looking around a store in a night market near my apartment when I found these sticker sheets. First I saw the flat sticker sheet which just had some nice engrish and odd logos on it, then I noticed the road sign stickers. They looked like normal signs until I examined them more closely – they’re made-up signs with nose picking, Ultraman, bullfighters, marathon runners, and a deer jumping through a flaming hoop with the text “Level 3″. That being said, they’re awesome. In total I got a flat sticker sheet, a color and a reflective version of “sheet A”, and only one “sheet B” that wasn’t sun faded and completely peeling off of the backing.

I’ll try to add comments later with translations of some of the signs – any help would be welcome.

hello world

Hi – this is chef, and I’ll be a “regular” contributor to the site. Some background: I’m an Asian/American now working as a Technical Writer/Etc Guy in Taipei, Taiwan. I blend in with the locals quite well, but I’m not Taiwanese at all, nor do I know Chinese very well at ALL; I like to think of myself as an undercover yank.

As such, I’ll be posting on various topics involving life here, and I’m welcome to suggestions to boot. I’ll also be posting on topics such as technology and gaming, which I’ve a thing for. Bad.
